The porcelain bowl simulating the cinnabar lacquer, with curved sides rising from a short foot to a gently flaring rim, the exterior carved with four ‘shou’ character roundels against a diaper ground above a lappet band, the rim and foot encircled with key-fret bands, covered overall in a vermillion-red glaze, the interior painted overall in different shades of reddish-brown enamel in imitation of a wood body under the surface of lacquer, and rim in gilt.
